The Zebra DS2278 is a cordless 2D area imager created for retail till counters, hospitality venues, event ticketing, light logistics, and guest check-in stations. Operating via Bluetooth 4.0 with a working range of up to 10 metres (33 feet) from its base, it decodes standard 1D paper barcodes, 2D QR codes, Data Matrix symbols, PDF417 codes, and screen-based electronic coupons on mobile devices.

Pre-configured for immediate use out of the box, the DS2278 features Zebra PRZM Intelligent Imaging software to read scratched, dirty, or faint barcode labels on the first pass. Its IP52 enclosure resists dust deposits and water drops while withstanding repeated 1.5-metre drops onto concrete floors. Powered by a rechargeable 2,400 mAh lithium-ion battery cell, it supports up to 14 hours of continuous operation or 100,000 scans per full charge.
